The mushing bug bit Randy when he came to Alaska in 2001 to see the Iditarod. His love of dogs and the outdoors made the idea of mushing all the more desirable.
The kennel gets its name from "Hockeytown," one of the nicknames for Detroit and home of the Stanley Cup winning Red Wings. While not from Detroit, Randy has been a Wings, Lions, and Tigers fan since childhood.
We moved to Talkeetna in the summer of 2007 after spending the previous four years living "off the grid" in rural Alaska. The kennel is at mile post 7.8 on the Talkeetna Spur Road, providing easy road access for tours and plenty of parking. We live on 20 acres surrounded by large birch trees and a variety of berry bushes.
Randy competed in the Iditarod in 2006 and 2007. He completed the 2006 race. He has also completed the Klondike 300, the Knik 200, and the Cantwell 200. Read stories at the North Texan, and Spokesman Review. See a few photos of him on Flickr.
